NCRP Technical Assistance Round 3
Completed
MCFSC seeks to contract with a GIS mapping professional to assist our County Coordinator in developing an online, interactive, data-rich, publicly available countywide map. This map will contain data layers on all wildfire risk-mitigation projects countywide to help us overview, understand and prioritize project plans in coordination with CAL FIRE. Data will inform our upcoming Mendocino County CWPP update. By increasing staff skills, the project will provide affordable in-house mapping capacity for all future CEQA and grant applications. The project also includes documenting training protocols for future staff, significantly boosting our organizational capacity into the future.

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
This request builds on our collaboration with CAL FIRE to create a Mendocino County wildfire-mitigation project inventory & online map. This data-driven prioritization tool and staff skill-building will also inform the pending update of our County CWPP, local responder-map project, and grant & CEQA applications. Many groups in our large, diverse county are working furiously to address wildfire safety. Accessible project info will allow us to coordinate, collaborate & maximize resources; our County Coordinator is gathering data, and we have a rough map draft. But we are losing in-house GIS capability with the departure of an AmeriCorps fellow who became proficient in mapping, assisting with CEQA & grant applications and creating responder maps with vital details supplied by volunteers on local water sources, roads, infrastructure, etc. In-house GIS competency is key to our continued growth & relevance.
