NCRP IRWM Prop 50 R1 (SWRCB)
Completed
This project included the removal of a seasonally used flashboard irrigation dam, construction of a boulder riffle, a pumping facility, fish screen and over 5 miles of pipeline in order to provide year-around fish passage for Klamath River salmon and to improve water quality in the Shasta River. The successful completion of this project represents a collaboration between multiple stakeholders including 5 independent ranchers, multiple regulatory agencies, 5 different funding agencies, engineers, contractors, Siskiyou County and the Shasta Valley RCD.

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
In 2005 the NRCS began working with landowners on a solution to provide irrigators with their adjudicated water rights while at the same time providing for year-round fish passage. Beginning in July of 2007 the first phase of construction began. Instream construction activities occurred when salmonids were least likely to be present- during the hot summer months. Construction photos are provided in Appendix A. Instream construction activities were largely completed with the removal of the Araujo Dam in October of 2007. Shortly after the removal of the dam the second phase of construction began with the installation over 5 miles of pipelines. Construction efforts began in November of 2007 and were completed in September 2009. Delays in completion of pipeline construction were due to stop notice received in December of 2008. Pipeline construction was just recently completed in September 2009.
