The Round Valley Indian Tribes is seeking funding to support Technical Assistance from its consulting forester BBW & Associates to 1) Initiate an agreement between RVIT and the Mendocino National Forest 2) Outline a report for how current and future RVIT Tribal staff can obtain red cards and participate in prescribed fire on Trust lands and 3) Initiate funding requests to private foundations to repair and/or acquire new equipment and to build a shop that will house RVIT equipment.

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
Project Purpose: To directly benefit the Round Valley Indian Tribes and the severely disadvantaged community of Covelo through 1) setting up beneficial agreement between the Mendocino National Forest (MNF) and the Round Valley Indian Tribes (RVIT) 2) Produce a report that outlines a process for how current and future RVIT Tribal staff can obtain red cards in order to burn on Trust lands and 3) Initiate funding requests to private foundations to repair and/or acquire new equipment and to build a shop that will house RVIT equipment. Project Need: RVIT is attempting to rebuild their fire/fuels program using their existing 10-person Tribal forestry crew and needs technical assistance from their consulting forester in order to do so. Expected Goals: 1) Make progress on an agreement between RVIT and the MNF 2) Complete a red card report that outlines how Tribal staff can acquire red cards and 3) submit funding request to private foundations.
