Planning/Design
This project involves a potential real property forestland acquisition by the Trinidad Rancheria. This 32-acre property was identified as a high priority for expanding the Rancheria in our recent Forest Management Plan update. The project will maintain and enhance forest health, wildlife habitat, carbon sequestration and water quality in this small coastal watershed. This high priority parcel is currently available (and time is of the essence). Appraisal and forest inventory are complete. Preparing additional grant applications to fund the acquisition are needed.

Project Attributes

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
This project supports the necessary steps to acquire property. Appraisal, timber inventory and evaluation have been completed using NCRP TA funds. Assistance with grant applications for forest acquisition to expand territory for the Rancheria is needed. The tribe currently own 80 acres held in trust. This will be a 40% increase in land ownership for the tribe. Opportunities for acquiring vacant timber land in this area are extremely limited. Acquiring this land is consistent with the goals outlined in our Integrated Resources Management Plan. The tribal council has authorized Environmental program staff to move forward with planning and acquisition of this land. This project is consistent with the States 30 by 30 initiative by restoring tribal ownership and control of lands.
