Project Overview

Basics

SHARED VISION THROUGH INCLUSIVE, MULTI-BENEFIT REGIONAL PLANNING
Work across Jurisdictional Boundaries to Achieve Common Objectives Effectively and Efficiently
Bohemian Collaborative Forest Stewardship Plan

  • Address Climate Change and Extreme Event Effects, Impacts and Vulnerabilities
  • Avoid Emissions via Land Management and Policies
  • Engage with Regional Partners to Inform High Quality Planning and Implementation

NCRP RFFC Technical Assistance (DOC)
Implementation
The Bohemian Collaborative is a Safer West County subcommittee consisting of large parcel (~50+ acres) landowners surrounding the Dutch Bill Creek watershed and the adjacent watersheds/'firesheds' of Green Valley, Willow Creek/Coleman Valley, and Salmon Creek/Tannery Creeks as well as Cal Fire and other local fire agencies in Sonoma County. The goals of this project are to build on existing FMPs that exist for some parcels and identify priority fire risk reduction projects and set management priorities through the development of a landscape-level Forest Stewardship Plan and create work products to support applying for various federal, state, and local grant funding sources.

Project Attributes

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
Our project involves scores of large parcel owners each with different historical practices and experience. As a county, Sonoma County is among the most parcelized in the state with relatively few large parcel owners, which creates challenges when working to achieve landscape level projects that can effectively reduce wildfire risk and improve the health of forests and watersheds. Our Forest Stewardship Plan involves creating an overarching document with separate addenda for each private parcel owner. We need technical assistance to supplement our chosen forester and create the many maps and timber resource inventories required by forest practice rules, integrate wildfire response planning with Cal Fire and our local fire agencies, and use advanced machine learning techniques to identify and prioritize projects with the most potential impact to reduce wildfire risks.
