General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
Hacienda FireWise/COPE council is preparing to apply for a grant from the County of Sonoma and CalFire for construction of shaded fuel breaks along ridge tops surrounding Hacienda. A grant from NCRP would allow us to complete the fuel breaks a year earlier. If we wait for Sonoma County funding, available in Fall of 2024, the botanical survey would not take place until Summer of 2025. Funding will enable a botanical survey to be completed in Summer, 2024. As the botanical survey is necessary before construction on the fuel breaks can commence, securing funding now would enable initiation and completion of the fuel breaks to occur a full year sooner than if we wait for County funding. This is more than just a process improvement; this would mean that residents of Hacienda would endure one less fire season without the protection of the shaded fuel breaks.
