NCRP RFFC Technical Assistance (DOC)
Deferred/Unfunded
Tan Oak Park is the home of the Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliance and the site for numerous fire safety and sustainability events and workshops for our community. Previous TA was used to develop a plan for the Forest Health Workforce Training Center. The current project focuses on a next step identified in that plan, focusing on developing plans and permits for a sustainable hydroelectric/solar micro grid at the Tan Oak Park Training Center. Additionally, this project will include developing plans and permits for a water storage pond to increase fire safety and improve habitat.

Project Attributes

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
TA is requested for two components: Part 1: Tan oak park was powered by hydroelectric in the 1930's. There is an old 6" penstock following a deeded easement on Mad Creek to a point upstream from Tan Oak Park. We plan to install a new hydro system; to accomplish this goal we are seeking funding to hire a licensed engineer to plan a modern and efficient system design and assist with permitting. This project will provide an independent source of electricity for the residents and guests of the Tan Oak Park facilities, as well as potentially feeding excess current into the main power grid. Part 2: We are also seeking funding for a licensed engineer to draft plans and assist with permitting for a water storage pond at Tan Oak Park. This will provide water for fire safety and habitat improvement. This pond will allow Tan Oak Park to exercise forbearance on diverting water from mad creek during the summer months, maintaining a cold-water flow to Rattlesnake Creek, improving salmonid habitat.
