Woody Feedstock Aggregation Pilot
Planning/Design
The Dinsmore Pilot Project would facilitate the removal, transportation, aggregation and processing of woody biomass from public and private forest lands in the Eastern Humboldt/Western Trinity regions. The Dinsmore Pilot Project has identified key partners in the region to facilitate the aggregation of woody biomass, as well as identified a preliminary site to aggregate, sort and process woody feedstock. This Pilot Project will allow this team the opportunity to design and document processes to meet the long-term goal of creating similar stake-holder informed, community supported (and supporting) facilities to serve other heavily forested regions in Humboldt and Trinity Counties.

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
The purpose of this project is to plan, design, study and learn from the following described biomass aggregation project in order to build a business entity model for cooperative-based community-owned biomass processing facilities and supply chains on the North Coast. This project has been created to meet the need of our region to scale up protections against extreme fire, drought, deforestation, and community disenfranchisement. We will utilize a cooperative entity model that has the potential to solve multiple long-term issues with woody feedstock biomass supply chains resulting in a greater amount of fuels reduction work performed, long-term community buy-in and greater ecological and social resilience. Goals: Design a stakeholder-informed Woody Products Aggregation Entity in the Eastern Humboldt/Western Trinity Region of the North Coast. Create the framework for designing similar stake-holder informed woody products aggregation entities in other regions of the North Coast.
Solutions
Capacity - Data and Planning, Community Health and Safety - Community Emergency Planning, Fire Resilient Forests - Forest Biomass Residuals, Fire Resilient Forests - Fuel Management

Project Types

The key partner in this project for building capacity in regional and local planning is the Cooperative Agriculture Network (CAN). CAN excels at facilitated capacity building within diverse rural communities through direct stakeholder involvement.
This project would facilitate the removal, transportation, aggregation, and processing of woody biomass from public and private forest lands to increase the economic viability of hazard tree removal and fuels reduction in the Eastern Humboldt/Western Trinity regions of the North Coast.
