NCRP RFFC Technical Assistance (DOC)
Completed
The Trinity Center Volunteer Fire Department wishes to promote coordination of the many projects which are being proposed by various entities to reduce fuel loads and protect communities in the north Trinity Lake area. The end product would be an overall plan which identifies gaps, needs, and potential funding sources. In addition, the Volunteer Fire Department wishes to develop a response plan to future wildfires, which incorporates lessons learned and vulnerabilities identified during the 2021 River Complex .

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
Numerous entities (USFS, FEMA, Watershed Center, TCRCD) have proposed fuel reduction projects in the north Trinity Lake area. Some of these stem from the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which is a "bottom up" document. Many of the proposals reflect an entities' particular concern or grant possibilities. The Trinity Center Volunteer Fire Department (TCVFD) wishes to take a "top down" overall approach to consider needed projects and to incorporate local knowledge. The resulting plan would serve as a guide for future projects and grant applications. In addition, TCVFD wishes to develop a Wildfire Response Plan for our service area (29 square miles). Our community was threatened by the River Complex Fire in 2021. Our small volunteer fire department was scrambling to identify water resources, bulldoze emergency evacuation routes and safety zones, provide local information to Incident Command, etc. We need a comprehensive plan to guide preparation and future grant applications.
