Completed
The Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliance (NM-ERA) mission is to foster forest health in our region and to build a local workforce to do the necessary work. To that end, we plan to build a training center for forest health and resilience jobs, working with the NPO Families and Friends United by AIDS, which owns Tan Oak Park, a non profit retreat center on Hwy 101 with facilities, water, appropriate zoning and everything but a training hall and a development plan. We are seeking technical assistance to develop a plot plan, infrastructure needs assessment, permitting help, project benefits quantification, forest management plan, and a design/cost estimate for a classroom structure.

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
As a result of unprecedented wildfires, funding has been made available on a state and federal level to address forest health, which could greatly benefit our economically disadvantaged community, however we lack a trained workforce. There is a substantial need in our region for a local skilled workforce and educated local landowners with the ability to do the on-the-ground work of restoring our forests, grasslands, and economy. The goal of the Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliance is to support the development of a local forest health workforce and a network of educated landowners to perform extensive fire prevention work, such as forest thinning and prescribed burning, while simultaneously developing a new local economy and industry based on principles of regeneration as opposed to extraction. Working with Families and Friends United by AIDS, we are requesting technical assistance to develop a plan for a training center for forest health and resilience jobs at Tan Oak Park.
