NCRP DACTI Technical Assistance
Completed
The City of Crescent City supplies water to City and County customers which include Bertch Ocean View CSD, Elk Valley Rancheria, and Pelican Bay State Prison from a single groundwater extraction well near the Smith River within the Smith River Groundwater Plain. There are no adjacent or surrounding public water supply systems that can provide water to the region. The shallow nature of the well and proximity to the Smith River makes it vulnerable to surface water contaminants and drawdown during extreme drought conditions. The City of Crescent City is requesting technical assistance for the preparation of a feasibility study of a new well location in the Smith River Groundwater Basin.

Project Attributes

General Information

Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
Perform a technical feasibility study on a new groundwater well location. Currently the City of Crescent City is the sole provider of water to the regional customer base from a single groundwater extraction well. If the existing well goes offline for any reason - extreme drought, contamination, mechanical failure, natural disaster - there are no other water sources for the Crescent City region. This project will evaluate a second potential source of water (groundwater within the Smith River Plain Groundwater Basin) that could provide water if the single existing groundwater well failed or became unfit for use. Project objectives are: determine feasibility of new groundwater well at City owned site; determine best construction technique for new well; determine cost of new well; determine cost of connection to the main transmission line.
