Implementation
This project will develop the Resort Improvement District No.1 well site (W-Well) to improve water quality and increase water availability for public use in Shelter Cove. W-Well site produces a high quantity of water (over 55 gpm), but currently with poor water quality to due elevated levels of magnesium chloride. Project funds would cover engineering, permitting, and materials/equipment costs to purchase and install a 5,000 gallon water tank (contact chamber), peristaltic & booster pumps, purge valve & water piping, electric starters, chlorine monitoring, small & secure 10’10’ protective structure, improved vehicle well site access, and rock and slope protection for adjacent drainage.

General Information
Project Description Narrative (1,000 character limit)
This project will allow for greater conservation of surface water resources by decreasing District surface water diversions from Telegraph Creek (primary water public water source) during the dry season through increasing W-Well site water use by effectively reducing water contaminants to improve water quality. Reducing water withdrawals from Telegraph Creek during the dry season will increase water available to wildlife and salmonid populations. With the addition of a contact tank, pumps, and proper chemical monitoring W-Well could directly replace estimated 70,000 gallons of water per day presently drawn from Telegraph Creek.

Project Types
Project Types
This project develops infrastructure to improve groundwater quality for a disadvantaged community.
This project will enhance watershed conditions through reduction in summer instream withdrawals in Telegraph Creek.
This project diversifies the water sources for the Shelter Cove RID #1, improving its resiliency to drought and climate change. Through treatment of non-potable groundwater, the RID will be able to reduce withdrawals from Telegraph Creek, thus increasing the creek's resiliency to climate change, especially during hot summer months.
